![]() Wineries of the Durbanville Wine Route WELBELOONDOne of the old farms of Durbanville, Welbeloond was originally used as an outpost by Jan Van Riebeck. The Homestead was built in 1785.The Mellish family arrived on the farm in 1905 and were dairy and wheat farmers until 2000, when the first block of vineyard was planted. The farm now has 35 hectares under vine. Only the best fruit is reserved for the Welbeloond wine label. Welbeloond is a boutique wine cellar that aims to produce the best in South African wine. The cellar only handles 20 tons of the farms finest fruit to ensure the wine receives the attention it needs to become world class. Only two wines are made per season. The first wine under the Welbeloond label was made in the season of 2007 by qualified winemaker Andrew Mellish. ![]() ![]()
