KLEIN ROOSBOOM

A boutique winery offering excellent, award-winning wines.

Winemaker Karin De Villiers always dreamed of making her own sparkling wine 'someday'. She married Jean De Villiers who owned Klein Roosboom – a 260-hectare farm in the Durbanville Hills.

Of the total, 160 hectares were under vine, most of which were Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

Their proximity to the sea and the cool Atlantic breeze greatly enhances the quality of their grapes and wines produced from them are able to last longer in the bottle.

In 2007 Karin decided that 'someday' had finally arrived and decided to go for it. She put 500 bottles of Method Cap Classique to bed.

From there, Karin thought if she was going to make one wine, she may as well create her own label and also add white and red wine to it. She eventually also created some Shiraz which should be ready in 2012. She has also introduced a second range of wines that are easy drinking and fun without compromising on quality – the Bandana Range which has been accepted by and is carried on British Airways.

"I make the wines I'd like to drink," is the philosophy at Klein Roosboom. "If it's not good enough for us, it's not good enough for the public!"
